Welcome to the Montgomery High School website. Our school is located in Santa Rosa , California and we are an International Baccalaureate High School.
We are one of five comprehensive high schools in the Santa Rosa City School District. We have approximately 1900 students with 120 staff members. Our school is known for its strong academics, extra-curricular offerings, and strong scholar-athletic teams. We believe in relationships, relevance, and rigor. We strive to know our students well, have challenging curriculum that is relevant to the world we live in, and support each student to stretch his or her capabilities so that each student has expanded choices after high school. We are the Montgomery High School family, which includes staff and alumni since our opening in 1958. The Viking tradition continues to provide a strong high school experience for youth. GO VIKINGS!

Montgomery High School Graduation Information
Friday, May 31st | 6:30 pm MHS Stadium

6:30 PM in the MHS stadium (football field/bleachers).

Gates open at 5:30. You will receive SIX free tickets. You may begin picking these up in the Business Office on May 13. You may buy up to five more @ $6 each (cash). Tickets are not distributed on first come/first serve basis: each of you is entitled to 11 tickets (free and paid). We will not run out! Business Office phone: 528-5395
Guests will need a ticket to be admitted to the grad ceremony.
- Caps and gowns have been ordered through Jostens (www.northcoastgrad.com 569-7364) and must be worn at graduation. Do not alter or adorn your caps. Decorative neckwear or any other decorative clothing cannot be worn at the ceremony. Ex: can't wear leis to the ceremony. Contact Jostens if you do not yet have yours!
- Wear nice clothing under your gown: dress shoes, dress slacks, button-type dress shirts, skirts, dresses. No flip flops, no sunglasses. Spike heels sink in the artificial turf.
- Grad practice: Thursday and Friday May 30 & 31 at 10:30 AM. You need to attend practice. We end by noon each day, or close to.
- Diploma pick-up: You may pick up your diploma in the Counseling Office beginning Wednesday, June 5 . We hold it until you pick it up. No rush.
- Graduation Ceremony pictures: If you want to buy your photo that will be taken as you walk across the stage, turn in your “Campus Candid” postcard to the Main Office, by May 29. These postcards will be available soon through your Social Studies teacher, and also in the Main Office. We'll also have them at grad practice for you.

ATTENTION ATHLETES
News Regarding School Sports & Physical Education Credits
Effective for the 2012/2013 school year, your participation on an interscholastic sports team may allow you to earn PE credits. This policy is not retroactive and the credits earned may only go towards fulfilling the graduation requirement for PE. You must already have earned 10 credits of PE at school, attend and participate in both practices and games. These credits must be applied for within 10 days of the end of your sports season. There is a purple form to fill out, available in the Counseling Office, and several signatures to obtain… so don't wait until the last minute to take care of business. (If you have already earned the necessary PE credits for graduation, you will not be eligible to earn these credits) Copies of the form, a flow chart showing you what to do and when, and a flyer about the new credits are available below.

CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION
The California Scholarship Federation is an honor society based upon academic achievement. Members are not recruited. Rather, students apply after they have completed a semester. Students may file an application at any time during the entire month of September to gain eligibility from their spring semester grades. Students may file an application at any time during the entire month of February to gain eligibility from their fall semester grades. Each applicant must obtain an application from either Mrs. Butler (in Room 52) or Mrs. O'Meara in the Counseling Office or the Counseling Office. The applicant may also download the application from the Montgomery website. The application form publishes all of the information to determine eligibility. Sealbearers (or Lifetime Members) must have been a member for four semesters, one of which must be during the 12 th -grade year. Ninth graders are not eligible. 10 th -graders are eligible only after the fall semester.

A GUIDE TO BETTER WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM
A complete copy of The Write Stuff handbook is available by clicking on the title of this section. You can print out individual pages or the entire publication. Montgomery High School supports and expects students to utilize the resources found in this handbook. Teachers and students will be using the handbook both inside and outside of class. Please have yours with you.

WORK PERMITS & TRANSCRIPTS:
Work Permits are issued by Debbie Hicks in the Business Office. Work Permit forms and Mrs. Hicks are located in the Business Office.
Transcript: Please come to the counseling office to request your transcript or if you live out of town/state you will have to print the request form. Mailing address and fax number are on the request form.

Yearbook Sales & Info
Yearbook Sales List Through May 10th
This is the final, completed, resolved sales list. Students will ONLY receive a book if they are on the list. If they think an error has been made, they need to be in touch with Mr. Forrest in room 12/14 asap. A receipt or cancelled check is all the proof they need, but if they are not on the list and don't have a receipt or cancelled check, they will not receive a book.
Books will be distributed at 3 o'clock on Friday the 24 th from the main gym. We will not be releasing books early. If they want someone to pick up their book for them, they will need to give that student proof of their permission. We will not just release books to someone because they say they are picking it up for someone else. Students should have photo ID so we can positively identify them before releasing the book.
If they do not pick up their book on Friday afternoon, they will be able to claim it (with photo ID) from the business office at lunch or after school during finals week.
Students who want to purchase a book will not be able to do so on distribution day. They will be able to buy books on a first come, first served basis for $100 cash only from the business office at lunch or after school during finals week.

Senior Portrait Info
There will be a free, yearbook-only senior portrait photo session on Thursday, November 15, at lunch in the cafeteria. We want to feature every senior in the yearbook! If you haven't yet submitted your photo, this is your best opportunity to do so. All you have to do is come to the stage in the cafeteria during lunch on Thursday, and dress appropriately. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
Here is the list of senior portraits we have received as of 11/7/12. Please check your name and let us know if we have made any errors, or if you prefer something different. If your name is not on this list, we don't have a portrait from you!
Finally, this is the list of people who have not submitted a senior portrait . If your name is on this list, we especially want to invite you to the free yearbook-only portrait session described above.

More information and an order form for senior parent ads are in this Messenger and online at montgomeryhighschool.com . Order forms are available in the Business Office and Main Office as well. We encourage you to sustain this wonderful tradition, and take advantage of the enduring forum the yearbook presents to tell your senior how you feel about him or her.
Senior Portraits - Due Friday, October 26th, 2012
You may use any photographer you choose. We encourage you to schedule your session as soon as possible, to ensure that your photo will be completed in time for inclusion in the yearbook. You should clearly determine with your photographer who is responsible for submitting the photo to the yearbook. We do accept non-traditional or amateur portraits, but we reserve the right to request an alternate photo if we deem a submission inappropriate or of insufficient photographic quality.
Senior portraits are due in to the yearbook by Friday, October 26th, 2012 . Please spell your name exactly how you want it to appear in the yearbook when you submit your portrait. Write your name on the back of any hard copies submitted, and on any CDs submitted. If emailed, be sure to name the photo “last name, first name.” We do accept non-traditional portraits, but we reserve the right to request an alternate photo if we deem a submission inappropriate or of unacceptable quality. All school guidelines regarding unacceptable drug, alcohol, sexual, or gang-related content should be followed. Please remember that these are portraits , and will be oriented vertically. Photos that involve props, full body shots, or horizontal orientation may be cropped by Yearbook, especially those that feature more than the student's head and shoulders.
You may submit portraits 3 ways: 1) Online, as an attached JPEG , to montyportraits@gmail.com . 2) As a JPEG on a clearly labeled CD or DVD. 3) As a traditional hard copy photo printed from a film negative, not from a digital file. Do not submit photos embedded in Word documents or email. If submitted online or on a CD, JPEGS should be 300 dpi for a wallet size (approximately 2.5 x 3.5 inches) photo. (A rough rule of thumb is that photo files should be at least 100KB or bigger.) All photos should be oriented vertically. Formal portraits should follow these guidelines:
Wallet size (larger is okay, but not necessary)
Head size approximately 1 ¼ inch
Color
Courtesy of Valhalla Photography, we will provide free yearbook-only professional photos for those students who do not purchase a senior portrait. Scheduling information for this will be posted in the fall. Between professional portraits, our free portrait sessions, and the school ID photos, we want every senior in the senior section!
We will post the names of all senior portraits received. Please double check to make sure your photo has been properly tracked. Check online, or in the window of room 14 in the fall after you have submitted your portrait.
